Why are any of these words offensive? You're obviously not a sentient penis. And even if you were, that would be no more offensive than calling you what you were, so calling a man a man. Ohh, how rude of me. I said the 'm' word. Or calling a tree a tree. Shit, the 't' word. How rude of me.

If I say "For fucks sake!", I'm not insulting YOU (or anybody), I'm just exclaiming my feelings, be it anger, or shock. It'd be unhealthy to bottle them up, so in a way, by forbidding swearing, you're hindering people's health.

But feel free to contradict me. Call me an idiot. Because I know that calling someone an idiot in responce to something they say does not mean they are an idiot in everything they do. If I say you're stupid, then what I mean is you just saidd something stupid, which in that instance, is the same thing. But it's not a judgment on your whole being. It just means that you should put aside your ego for a few moments and ponder what you've said, and whether it was logical/rational/intelligent. And if it wasn't swallow your pride and say "you're right". It's what I'd do.

So anybody have any reasons why swearing's bad?

I would have to agree, they are just words. It is we whom give them meaning.

@Vecto: A couple people have said here and there across OmegaDev about it in passing. I was just interested to see if anyone had any justification for being offended. And I fancied a bit of a rant. And I deemed this the most appropriate sub-forum for it.

Also, side-note. I have a theory that the more tolerant we are of swearing, the less people will abuse it. Generally young kids (or attention seeking adults) swear for attention and shock value. If you didn't bat an eyelid and kept schtum, they'd probably do it less. But this is just a theory. I need to do some experiments...

Personally, I just try to avoid using words like that all together though, I really dont like getting into arguments over them XD...

True I do cuss a lot, but mostly because I don't really care about it. It is just words. Like Dawning Star said most High Schoolers randomly enjoy cussing just for the sake of cussing.

Thankfully, despite my age and limitations as a "kid", I feel ten billion times more mature than the people at my school....

So all-in-all, cuss words don't really matter

You misunderstood me. Your lack of understanding why people swear is what I was questioning. I wasn't saying you abhored it. I was questioning the bit where you say you wish people woulnd't do it. (I assume you meant wouldn't, instead of would.)
