Guilds?

I was chatting with Shady one of these days... Shady will become mod We were thinking about some kind of activity, but not a boring game creation contest. We wanted something to last longer... forever maybe?

During that chat, I was thinking a lot about Harry Potter (0_o), and we thought about the creation of something like a Guild/Group/House, which is basically a group of OmegaDev members teamed up.

What do they do? Every single member in that group is responsible to help his/her Guild progress in the rankings.
How? Well, one thing was a bi-weekly small challenge, like a simple mapping activity. For example: Gryffindor (lol) has 5 members, and each make a map for the challenge. The maps are then qualified 1-10 and the score is sent to Gryffindor. That's how your Guild grows!

But not just that, we also considered rewarding points to an user's Guild when that user did something pretty useful, like resource submission or a tutorial.

Of course, we cannot allow users to create Guilds, that would be a chaos. So there should be 4/5 guilds the users may join. We would control the population of each Guild too, for a fair activity.

Also, probably in each guild there will be a leader or something to represent his/her guild in general, organize the group etc...

What do you think? If we were going to accept this, we would still have a lot to develop, but it would certainly be a lot of fun to help your Guild cooperatively! (Because Harry Potter is awesome)

Yeah... It actually sounds kinda cool... I want to be in Hufflepuff.

This is a pretty good idea. I'd join Hufflepuff because it's not mentioned as much as the others in the film.

I'd join...Hufflepuff because Cedric is pure EPICNESS!

Seriously...This should be incorporated to that MMO thingy you wanted someone to host.

ravenclaw is waay better... The is almost no mention of it in the book and no one important came from it!

Ravenclaw = clever people
Hufflepuff = nice people (friendly etc.)
Slytherin = cunning/ruthless
Gryffindor = brave

I don't know who'd rather be brave than nice.

Kinda sad that there isn't a funny group...

Join ravenclaw, their cleverness usually ends up being funny anyways!

Why NOT to join the other groups:
Gryphondor: to overhyped, full of showoffs!
Hufflepuff: Everyone and their mother wants to join it
Slytherin: Full og evil and strange people

Everyone wants to join Hufflepuff? But they think it's uncool. Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are the best, and yet the least wanted.

I dig this! Members could be chosen (or transferred) at random, and each guild should have at least 1 qualified leader.

Yeah, like a moderator leading each house? Interesting.

Anyway, since you all seem to agree, we might start organizing everything. How about thinking about the names & qualities for our guilds?

Well... we could divide the members according to their functions (It'd be great if later we decide to turn OmegaDev into a socialist community). But I'm sensing some of our members would sob on how his/her friends are in another guild, so I guess each mod makes their own and people that like that mod would join his guild?

Edit: Also, having guild-specific subforums would be very nice. And a nice badge in the profile too.

I'm thinking the IMP1 Brigade, the IMP1_Is_Best Party, the IMP1_for_Mayor platoon and the Get_IMP1's_Goodness Group. And they'd focus on different pros of my attitude.

I like the idea of each group having a mix-and-match of skills. It'd mean we could have friendly inter-group competitions to make resources and stuff.

Why the commie hate? Socialism is a good idea, just not so good when it comes to actually make the idea happen. (Yes, I have been reading too much George Orwell)

I like the inter-group competition idea, but were would the awards and such each guild wins be displayed? Should each guild have an unique page, like the rules page?

Each guild with it's own page! Genius idea. Or it's own sub-forum if stuff gets big enough.

I'd go for Guild sub-forums. And only members of said guilds can access them?
It would be pretty cool having all kinds of skills in each guild, otherwise one guild might pwn another just because it is filled with graphic artists in a spriting competition
