This is the official thread for my VX MMO. I will lay out all the information here to allow people to get an insight of the games features, to see if anyone is interested enough to lend a hand. Now lets get right into things.


[The Story]

The games story line will lay within its quests, each quest will tell a story, and some quests might even be part of a long chain. Of course all the quests will be there mainly for the experience and money gain, but they will be what holds the story line of the game. Your character is a hero, he's born just to save people and rid the world of evil. [I am still thinking of an alternative for this, but as of right now, there is nothing else that can really be done]


[Features]

  • Dungeons - not really like WoW, but more like Guild Wars; each dungeon has varying amounts of levels; each level has a puzzle you must complete before you move on; the last level nests the boss, and once you kill him, a chest spawns and each party member can open it once and receives items.

  • Party System - invite people to team up, share loot, raid dungeons, etc.; this is the typical set up as any other mmo may have; also while in a party, loot will be shared differently, instead of it going to whoever deals the most damage, it will be distributed randomly (and evenly) to people in the party.

  • Skills - no more just running into battle and hitting a button repeatedly to win the fight; you must actually use your skills to be able to deal enough damage to win; each player will have a set number of skills they can use, once the player is in a town, he can learn new skills from a skill trainer, and then place them onto his skill bar to use during battle; you can not change skills outside of towns.

  • Combat - the typical mmo set up, with a twist; there will be no healers, everyone has to heal themselves, each class will have their own healing spells, and support spells; you can use your support spells to help other teammates to give them the edge in the battle; there will still be tanks, they will soak up all the damage, and use their skills to taunt the enemies and keep them aggroed on them; the typical caster classes - mage, necromancer, and some sort of health degen caster [working on name].; and of course an archer, the archer specializes in spreading conditions which weaken the enemies, making it easier to kill enemies.

  • Loot - not all items will be the same, this feature will be closer to Diablo 2, with my own twists of course; first priority of looting items goes to whoever dealt the most damage to a monster (please note that while in a party, loot is distributed differently); each item that's dropped will have a range of its armor rating; so say a Leather Robe drops, it may have an armor rating that varies between 5-7, 5 being weak, and 7 being perfect for that type of armor; with that in mind, there will be unique types of items that you must identify to see its qualities, these qualities are special buffs that the item has; each item has 3 stages of rarity, the lowest being the base armor with a plain white name and no special qualities, next up being uncommon, which is shown as a light blue and has few qualities, and the highest tier being rare, these are shown in a gold color and have many qualities; on occasion, items will be dropped from chests and bosses that are shown as green, these items are called unique, they are the items the boss uses, and will follow the same guidelines as the other item rarities.

  • Epic Equipment - the game will feature some epic endgame armor for you to achieve once you reach that stage of the game; but even before that, you will find some lower level armor and weapons that have some of the features that the high end ones do; some of the features may include glowing and animations on the equipment.

  • Production Skills - not only will there be combat, but there will be skills such as mining and fishing to provide a more relaxed atmosphere and give players a chance to do something else besides combat.

  • Unique Deaths - ironically, I want death to be an experience in itself; when you die, you will enter a near death state, you have a couple skills based on your class that you can use; while in the near death state, anyone can resurrect you; but after a set amount of time passes, or enough damage has been done to you, you will enter the dead state; once you enter the dead state, you are sent to a dream, you must either wait until someone attempts to resurrect you with a special item, or find the dream keeper and talk to him and choose to respawn at the nearest safe zone.

  • The list stops here, but don't think that's the end of it, because the above features are what's going to be released in the original release; there is much more planned for updates after the original release. I hope to have this game running for a long time with constant updates, and get a dependable development team. This is my career, game development, so I want to start as early as possible and get a team together, and get to know them like brothers so we can work together without a problem. This is a project I will not give up, it will get done, and the finished product will be well worth the trouble, I am sure of it.


[Classes]

  • Dream Wars [VX MMO] WarriorBG-1 Warrior - the typical mmo warrior, a strong and defensive unit, the tank, and the first one to run into battle; warriors are given skills that add armor and skills that deal extra damage.

  • Sorcerer - the general caster, versed in the arts of water, air, earth, and fire; has some single target spells, and some area of effect spells; the area of affect spells affect a range of tiles, depending on which spell it is; these units are very strong, and very vulnerable to attacks.

  • Assassin - in this game, assassins are the 'archers'; they are versed in the arts of using daggers, and bows, and can use both very proficiently; the main role of an assassin is to spread conditions and deal massive amounts of damage very quickly; these units are very strong, but at the same time they are weak to attacks.

  • Necromancer - the necromancer has the ability to summon minions to fight for their master, minions must come from a dead body; they also have the ability to cast spells that hamper the enemy, such as causing damage on an enemy whenever it attacks; these units are very weak, but make up for it by having a meat shield of minions in front of them.

Currently, I am in dire need of scripters, mappers, and graphics designers, if you would like to lend a hand, please post what field you would like to help out in and I will tell you exactly what I need done with detail.

Wow sounds nice. I had been trying to get the server online but apparently I didn't get how to do it =_= Anyways, I'm looking forward to this MMO. Hope it'll turn out awesome Wink

Of course it will be awesome. Very Happy The only thing that's holding me back right now would be the lack of scripters capable of working on this. I'm sure Omegas could handle it, but it's a lot of work for one man, and I'm not sure he'd want to spend most of his time doing this.

What mmorpg script are you using anyway? I believe there are two... vlad's and phoenix.
I have my very own VX mmorpg ideas but they will have to wait until I learn mySQL Razz

I've only looked at vlad's, I'll have to look at phoenix too I guess. But at the moment I'm using vlad's.

Well, this is the recruitment section, so I need people to help me with this, I'm the developer, I put it all together and organize everything, I'm not that great at mapping or scripting. Right now there's nothing, just the basic script that came with vlads, I'm looking for help to do this project, it's a lot to do for one person.

I suggest you use some kind of paperdoll script - The equipped hellmet/weapon/armor is shown on the sprite, or else everyone will look the same

I thought that would be a given, of course we'll have it. Razz I just didn't think I'd have to put that in the features as that's kind of necessary. We're going to have some sweet looking armor (I hope).

Update: I'm thinking that we're going to need a bigger screen size to fit all of these interfaces I would like to put in. How does 800x600 sound?

Yeah, that will all fall into place eventually.. I'm just confused as to how the heck I made a mysql database! D: Does anyone know? I can get it up and running after I make a database, but no one has a tutorial on how to make one. It's probably so easy to do, just I don't know how.

It says that's assumed knowledge lol, I'm such a noob at this stuff, I don't see where in the world it says create a database, maybe I installed the wrong thing?

Edit: I'll get it working, I just wish I knew more about php and mysql.

The program is nice, I'll probably use it to run the server, BUT.. it doesn't say anything about making a database, I'm just lost, why is there not a button that just says "create database" it makes no sense to me.

Do you remember what you said earlier? "Around 20 players"
It will be very, very hard for any of them to meet the other (lets say that usually only 3-4 people will be playing at the same time).
And 3-4 players are simply not enough to make use of all the game's features.

And about the database, that is not the only thing you will need.
You will need to have a strong background in network communication protocols, define several protocols, message formats, parser methods, handle errors for disconnections, probably Python for the server communication... and Ruby for Sockets....

We're not talking about in-game stuff anymore. This is the mechanics behind online connections, and I have little knowledge of that. How about we start learning some Python? :p

Yes, it's going to be a small game to start off, but if it picks up, I will add more to it. As for the python, I already know some python, I learned it off of this guy called thenewboston on youtube. He's a very good instructor.

Edit: Okay, it's screwed up now, I had it all going great, was about to get it up and running, then I clicked connect database and it instantly shut down, and now it doesn't even open up any more. It opens for a split second, then closes down. I have restarted my computer, and replaced the file with a new one.

Edit Edit: Got that problem fixed, now I just need to know how to PROPERLY import this text document.
