Game Gale WINNERS
Winners
Well, we're glad to finally announce the winners of this short contest. First of all, here are the reviews the judges (Omegas7 and Dezz123) gave.
Reviews Section
Chronicles of Zile Demo
Dezz123's review
- Spoiler:
- Entertaining: 2/10.
Gave me something to do, but it wasn't that entertaining... It didn't seem to be able to make me enjoy it at all either.
Gameplay: 3/10.
It wasn't that bad. It offered some instructions on what to do, but I got stuck before meeting with Tia, trying to find out what the hell I do next.
Character(s): 5/10.
The characters had their own personalities, but didn't really say or do much through the demo. Zile was kinda alright, but Tia was basically a zombie which points.
Theme/Setting: 6/10.
The setting was the best part about the game, as it seemed to be presented well, apart from the fact that the main character had a gun, which doesn't look like it should be there in the game.
- Spoiler:
- Entertaining: 4.5/10
I liked the music and the use of some custom scripts in there, plus the custom enemy sprites. However, the world map and the rocky mountains had a very, very high random enemy rate, and I entered a fight around every 3-4 steps. Even escaping was getting monotone.
Gameplay: 6.5/10
As I said earlier, the nice use of scripts for the menu, map location, chests and fogs were pretty nice, and impulsed me to continue playing. There were some bugs, like the fact of Tia's event never disappearing from the town map. Once again I point out the fact of too high random enemy rates, it had like 60 fights before finding Tia's hometown. The battle tutorial at the beginning was a nice start by the way.
Character(s): 3.5/10
Now, I know Zile got quite a story behind, but none of it is ever mentioned in the whole gameplay. Technically, this game was about bringing a girl to her hometown, and nothing to do with Zile's story. Also, Tia was supposed to lack battle knowledge, yet she deals much, much more damage than Zile can. If the bandit attacking Tia might count as a character or something, I'd like to point out he was killed with one single shot from Zile, and I though he was a boss or something.
Theme/Setting: 3.5/10
It isn't easy to find a game's exact theme if you just play a short demo. I can't really say I experienced Zile's adventures in discovering his past nor origins, which would have been a pretty nice plot. Now, taking into account that the game's objective was to take a girl to her hometown it wasn't really bad. I got to explore some mountains, when I just expected to walk and walk and walk a worldmap, so thumbs up for that!
Dungeons - dungeons - dungeons
Dezz123's review:
- Spoiler:
- Entertaining: 5/10.
I played this game twice, as it was actually quite fun. There wasn't really much there though to make me wanna play it a third time...
Gameplay: 3/10.
This wasn't really good. It didn't really have much to offer, and sometimes became quite annoying due to the enemies and other things.
Characters: 1/10.
The characters were awful. There wasn't much information presented about them in the actual demo, and they didn't say much or anything.
Theme/Setting: 1/10.
There wasn't anything good about the setting. It was just a boy running into a cave, meeting a magician and then battling a crystal. Then nothing happens.
- Spoiler:
- Entertaining: 7/10
Nice use of ORBS, it really did look like pokemon mystery dungeon, and there was that cool humor WTF style. You never knew what would happen in the next floor.
Gameplay: 6/10.
The battles were good, but there was not much strategy. I mean, I just walked in front of a monster and started smashing my keyboard. Actually, the game was pretty easy, and I never needed to run away or use a potion (there were plenty available, so I expected there to be hard bosses ahead, but the bosses were pretty easy as well).
Characters: 6/10.
There isn't much story behind the characters in this game, but since the player easily understands that this is more of a fun/humor battle game, they were pretty well designed for said purpose.
Theme/Setting: 6.5/10.
Dungeons. I love dungeons, the fact of exploring them and killing whatever living being is inside, of avoiding traps, of taking mystical treasures, and finally fighting an almost impossible boss. Unfortunately, the dungeons in this game were not much like that. Short rooms with somewhat weak monsters and no puzzles to solve! But the humor there was a nice addition. Always.
Mistral Gale
Dezz123's review:
- Spoiler:
- Entertaining: 8/10.
I found this game very entertaining, to the point I played it 4 times (so far!) and I'll probably play it again. It was quite entertaining being able to whack some airships, dragons and other flying things with a wrench!
Gameplay: 7/10.
The gameplay was well made, especially with it being made in just 7 days. It gave you an idea of what to do, the buttons, and the enemies, and it seemed well thought out and was a good game.
Characters: 5/10.
Their was only one character in the game, Marx Mayhem, who didn't really say much, yet you could easily tell what his personality was, and in the game he mentioned about what he was meant to do.
Theme/Setting: 7/10.
The setting was once again well thought out, and seemed to fit perfect with the actual game apart from the dragons AND hot-balloons.
- Spoiler:
- Entertaining: 7.5/10.
This was a pretty nice, non-rpg fun game with a great minigame feeling in the air. You did a good work with Marx's custom sprites!
Gameplay: 6.5/10.
It was great to have that tutorial scene, but on the time of the actual game, it was very hard for me to manage to kill a few monsters. He went too fast, and slowing him down takes some time, and when you have finally slowed his speed, you notice you already passed the monster. It is hard to get Marx to turn around, and even more to get close enough to the monster and hit it enough times to kill it. It was pretty creative to use an ABS script to make this kind of game.
Characters: 7.5/10.
Marx was a great character, he explained the tutorial pretty well, and really had a nice personality for minigames. I respect his valor into trying to find the mighty golden cookie.
Theme/Setting: 9/10.
Cookie hunting in the airs while killing dragons ~ That is a nice and unique style I enjoyed. Good work there.
