OmegaDev goes serious!
Good day, people.
We love our community, no? You guys are extraordinary. You're talented in what you do. And that's what keeps OmegaDev alive.
As time passed, we had our discussions, our problems and differences. But we have dealt with them, right? We evolved, we became wiser and more mature. We are now better.
But not the best. No, there's still a long way to achieve what OmegaDev's true purpose was: toeat all of Elfsong's children create an excellent community of talented and mature game developers. We want to become a major game creation community, no? Sounds impossible? Don't say that, because you make the difference.
Today I have decided, that if we want to truly become a powerful, friendly, organized and exceptional community, we have to move on to our own site. Details:
1. I will get a HostGator hosting server.
HostGator has excellent server support, uptime, maintenance features and updated web platforms.
2. I will upload the true phpBB3 forum software to our new servers.
This forum runs with phpBB, but we're not using the true power and functionality phpBB3 offers. Take a look at their site: http://www.phpbb.com/
There is a huge advantage over Forumotion's phpBB if we take this step:
3. We will have a custom domain name for OmegaDev.
Which we will discuss below.
Q. Why are we moving?!
Forumotion won't provide enough community power and support as phpBB3 does. Doing the steps above will mark the new history of OmegaDev, attempting to become a major game creation site.
Q. So we will leave all this behind?
Yes. It hurts me to admit so. We shall try to move our valuable content from here to the new site. I promise that as soon as we have settled we will continue with our normal activities like the Guilds.
Q. I posted a lot of resources here...!
I am sorry, I perfectly understand what you mean, but make a bit of effort, for OmegaDev, and take some of your valuable content to the new site!
Q. What about Shady and Light, banned users?
OmegaDev will have a revolution of great might. They will receive their second chances.
So if you want to let them know the good news go ahead (but don't tell them until we're done moving, we need to keep things organized!)
Q. How about the staff? Same mods?
No, the new site will have no mods. We will choose our mods again. Might be new ones or the current ones. Everyone gets his/her fair share of chances!
Q. Seriously?
I love this site. Sure.
Q. So... what now? When?
Very soon. Please discuss below.
Q. Seeeriouslyyy?!
We can't stay in Forumotion forever if we want to get far... please support me. It's my birthday (lol!) There are many great features phpBB3 offers us we can take for our own advantage in game development. Really.
-----
OUR NEW DOMAIN NAME
I will do what I can to find an adequate domain name. Note that, incredibly, most domain names are taken 0.o...
You go an idea? Go to GoDaddy.com and look for an available domain name!
If the name OmegaDev seriously can't be included in our domain name, what else "title" do you think might work? AlphaDev?
------
Our chance. Starting fresh to create the best community ever. Only united we can do it, no?

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
Sounds like a very Maizenoon venture, I'm in xD
But seriously, I'm alright with it... But it scares me that we might not be called OmegaDev anymore D:
Also, do you think this site could stay up with all of the forums locked? That would be awesome... We could walk down memory lane! OwO Did I just say that?
But yeah, I'd be alright with it. Wider forum Screenys would fit in spoilers xD Sounds good to me.

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
Thanks, Zad, I'm glad I'm counting with your support on this big jump. Because it also hurts me to leave this place.
Lock all topics? That would be really awesome to remember the good times! But we'll see about that later.
These domains are available by GoDaddy and sound good:
www.omega-dev.com
www.omega-dev.net
www.omegadevsite.com

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
Further details:
phpBB3 is truly flexible, with HostGator we should have a very stable site.
Do not fear for your resources here, try to take them to the new site when we have it ready, and shall you want to enter our new staff team, I will remember your efforts, because I know how annoying it is to put your stuff in multiple sites =D
We might expect all features we have now and even lots more, so it is for the greater good, people!

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
Nice, it might be www.omega-dev.com after all.
I'm awaiting the approval of everyone else, though I'd like to do it now and start with the phpBB3, MODS and Theme installation. Honestly, it is a very scary process. I get a MySQL server error and I freak out.

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
I see...Well I like omega-dev.com too!
So moving to a new site resets...EVERYTHING!?!?!?!??!
Disturbing....Well at least we can say (once the site gets big) that we were the ones that remember the old omegadev...good times (tear drops)

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
I always liked starting from scratch for a better experience. That might explain why I never finish many things, but meh =D...
Just remember to pack your nice stuff ready for when I'm done with the preparations! Feed the new OmegaDev with your best goodness on the beginning!

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
I approve this muchly. This sounds exciting.
I'd reccomend to people with lots of resources on this site to use this oppurtunity to get their stuff organised (it's what I'ma do), and to copy-and-paste their resource topics while they still have the chance.

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
I'm with you on this, Omegas. However, I'd suggest it to be www.omega-dev.net, as it's not a company but more of a network.
I'll be working my ass off creating content for it then (my creations, lol).
...But what about my post count?

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
www.omega-dev.net sounds fabulous.
Also, will the guilds be reseted? I'd like to stay guildless in the new site.
What about expanding OmegaDev beyond RPGMaker? Why not make it a general game development site? Of course, it keeps the RPGMaker forums, but adds some new ones. I think it'd bring more people over, plus I'm using Construct instead of RPGMaker lately, and I'd like some feedback and stuff.

9.9 I'm hoping this was a joke.Dezz123 wrote:...But what about my post count?
I think catering to other makers might be a good idea, but I don't know that we're qualified/experienced enough.Vectomon wrote:What about expanding OmegaDev beyond RPGMaker? I prefer .net over .com too.

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
I agree with everyone. True it hurts to leave behind THE OmegaDev, from where it all began, but evolving the site sounds much better. And with what Vecto and Dezz said, making OmegaDev a General Game Developing Community sounds good because there are more game makers than RPG Maker. And .net sounds kinda better than .com. I shall get onto packing my topics then. And happy birthday Omegas. ( I know I am late lol Examination are being a pain... MAJOR PAIN).
Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
I'm scared here. Some fool might take my modship from me?!? I better start banning everyone!
I like Omega-Dev.net more, just to let you know
And it is going to be a big hassle getting everything from one site to the new one, but for the most part it's just copying and pasting.

I think we shouldn't move all the topics. If you want to move your topic, then do, but it should be up to each user.

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
@Vecto: I agree with supporting multiple game engines, indie game engines of course, sounds great!
@Peva: No you don't have to move everything to the new site, I recommend just packing your preferred stuff lol. Too much copy pasting of topics in one shot can be very unorganized @__@
---
Yes I prefer .net over .com now that I think about it. Lol I was about to go for .com yesterday, glad I waited.
As for the Guilds, I think they will be reset. BUT! We won't forget that Maizenoon's Former members won the original and first OmegaDev guild battle in history. We should have a Hall of Fame or something....
Anyway, I will definitely go for www.omega-dev.net then. I'll make preparations soon enough for uploading phpBB3 software to the new server and stuff. The new site should be usable soon, though we might still have to do lots of changes after we settle down.
Meanwhile, I'm aware there are still some key members missing in this topic, so let's hope for their presence soon.

I'm pumped and sad at the same time! Lol. This will be fun, and an opportunity for us to grow even more. Let new members bask in Maizenoon's glory!

Re: OmegaDev goes serious!
I won't delete this old site, of course not 0.o..
As for modship, everyone will have equal chances to achieve it when we start the new site, so it is up to you @________@ (but don't blame me if pretty much the same mods get in again. they were chosen for a reason no?)
Ok, today (three-four hours later, maybe, gtg now) I'll take the domain, upload the phpBB3 software, upload & install basic MODS and a simple theme to begin with, create base stuff, and open the new site. Maybe I will be done tomorrow early.
You can notify Shady & Light about the move when things are ready.
But obviously we will still keep an eye on them.
Let's see...... Mitchi and Moneymenace are still missing. Who knows what happened to Ami/SugarWhatever? Oh well, in any case we'll leave a huge message in this old site.

A like button, or a button to the forums?
As for the emoticons, that sounds great. I don't know what emoticons come with phpBB3, but I just want a few basic and clean ones. Unlike the ones I had to delete in this forum, like that cat =D
